Yauatcha
Kind of mixed emotions when writing on Yauachta, I was very excited to have lunch here, it's a restaurant I've craved for some time. Often riding passed the hustle and bustle of soho's broadwick street and feeling an instant attraction to the modern contemporary building on the corner. It's bright exterior and beautiful fish tank inside gives a vibrant welcoming feel, and lured me in. However I was left slightly underwhelmed with the food and service, taking at least 5 minutes to get the attention of table staff for a drink is not too impressive. I don't have to many bad things to say of my lunch, because it was enjoyable with some pleasant dishes. I just did not find too much to shout from the roof tops. Again I was dining alone so was unable to sample too many dishes but i started with pork belly puff and wagyu puff. Both dishes were slightly mediocre. The pork got slightly lost in the rich pastry and the beef lacked an Asian punch that you'd expect from a Chinese kitchen. In actual fact it was more something I would expect on a bar food menu in a gastro pub. The steamed lobster dumplings was pretty tasty but again no thrills, however my deep fried squid with oatmeal was one of the best I've had. Beautiful crunch to the batter and wonderful soft squid with a subtle bite from the toasted oatmeal. Finished on steamed Dover sole with black bean sauce, the fish was perfectly cooked in a tasty sauce served with egg fried rice. In my opinion Yauatcha was more miss than hit's, and was probably over priced so I probably wouldn't recommend.
